It is the beginning of a new season,
excitement fills the stadium as we settle into our seats -
the players have entered the dugout,
the smell of hotdogs and peanuts quickly fills the air.
With a crack of the bat,
we watch with anticipation -
the ball swiftly travels into a high pop fly,
and lands in the awaiting glove of the shortstop.
The sun slowly sinks into the horizon -
the ballpark surrounded by the painted sky,
a slight chill creeps into the air -
what a great night for baseball.
Our favorite player steps up to the plate,
he swings and misses, and takes another pitch -
the ball is hit hard and quickly scales the wall,
our team leads by a run.
In the seventh inning,
we stand and sing out our favorite song -
"If they don't win it's a shame",
for it's one, two, three strikes, you're out, at the old ballgame".
The starters leave the field,
as the rookies stand in the dugout,
lined up along the rail,
waiting with anticipation for their chance to play.
Finally, it is the bottom of the ninth,
the Closer takes his stance -
as he sends in his best pitch,
he strikes out the batter and chalks up the win! ~ msc
