BOGO

I really don't like getting those weekly sales flyers in the mailbox, but I always sift through the stack before I put them in the trash. . .those advertisers are counting on that, aren't they? . . .and whether I am shopping for groceries or clothing, a sale in this economy is a welcome event.

I especially watch for the BOGO (buy one, get one) items at the local market.  It's a great way to stock up on things like spaghetti sauce, dry pasta, and soup stock.  I have even been known to buy an occasional box of microwave popcorn or hot cocoa mix for those rainy days and chilly evenings.  I love curling up with a favorite quilt, a steamy cup of cocoa, and a bowl of warm popcorn.

I always think of comfort foods when there's a nip in the air, especially homemade soups.  I remember my Mom's vegetable soup.  It was always so delicious, and tasted even better the second day.  Sometimes she would add smoked ham, or beef, or even turkey. . .whatever we had leftover.

I'm thinking today would be a good day for soup.
