Through the years, I have struggled with making RICE . . . sometimes too sticky. . . sometimes too crunchy. My step-father is an awesome cook, and he is my go-to-guy when it comes to the art of perfecting rice.
Ingredients ~
1 cup of rice, extra long grain
1 cup of water
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1 clove of garlic (or 1 teaspoon minced garlic)
Sprinkle of salt
Directions ~
Wash rice to remove the cloudiness of the starch
In a medium saucepan, add water, rice, olive oil, and garlic
Bring to a boil
Cover with a tight fitting lid
Reduce heat to the lowest setting
Set timer for 15 minutes
DO NOT lift the lid until the timer buzzes!
Take a fork and flip the rice
Taste to check for doneness
Special Note: If the rice is still a little firm, cover pot with lid, and cook for another 5 minutes.
