The Sacrifice

The warning signs were there,
but nothing prepared us for what lie ahead.
We were forced into the moment -
there was no time to second guess.

I would need his encouragement,
he would need me to be strong.

I listened as he described the sunset -
I felt safe within the sound of his voice.
He was patient,
as I struggled to find my words.

He knew my worst fears,
I knew the sacrifice he was making.  ~  msc

Meri's Writings said...

This poem was written in remembrance of that unforgettable plane ride to a private hospital in Nassau when a brain embolism and blood clot interrupted my ability to speak clearly, or walk, or even write my own name.
